I wanted to make something that built slowly, and had a lot of space.
I set a loop at 9 bars and started playing with the probability of samples (da-da-daa) being played or not. Then some chimes and I started to bring in a beat. As the track progressed I used polyrhythms with the drums to keep a sense of movement throughout.
The bass is created from a simple sine mixed with a sample of my daughter.
When the piece really kicks in, it was my initial idea to have that as the true start of a set, as opposed to the piece of music it has turned out to be. I had other pieces I was working on, and only a limited amount of time (I was using the Ableton Live 11 trial, hence the title of the ep).
